Final Exam (Chapters 1 - 11)

Notes

(a)            Last day to withdraw without assessment.

(b)           Last day to withdraw with a WP or WF.

(c)            Arts & Science reading days, attendance is optional.

7.         Homework:  Homework problems from the end of each chapter will be assigned regularly.  The homework will be administered via WebAssign at webassign.com and will be graded.  These assignments will reinforce concepts and principles described in the text and assist you in preparing for the examinations.  Your WebAssign Username is the same as your Student ID number without the fronting zeroes.  For example, if your UMKC Student ID is 001234567, your Username is 1234567.  Your Institution is UMKC.  Your initial Password is set to be the same as your Username.  At your first login you should immediately change this password by clicking on the My Options button.  After the initial grace period of about 2 weeks, you will be required to purchase an Access Code ($20) in order to access WebAssign.  If you obtained a new textbook at the UMKC bookstore, your Access Code should be bundled with it.

8.         Class Participation:  Occasionally during class you will be asked questions related to the material being discussed.  You will answer the questions using your response pad and the CPS system.  The responses will be recorded and graded.  Your response pad can be purchased at the UMKC bookstore.  To activate your response pad, go to einstruction.com and create a CPSOnline account.  Select your Username and Password and enter a valid e-mail address that you check regularly.   Make sure you register with the same first and last name as you are known in the UMKC records.  The serial number appears on the LCD screen of the response pad upon startup.  If you already have a CPSOnline account, simply login and Enroll in a class.  The class key is t1910g70.  Proceed to purchase access to CPSOnline and save your Pad ID.  If you are taking other classes that use CPS, create only one CPSOnline account.  The access fee ($10) covers all of your CPSOnline classes during the semester and you can use the same response pad.  However, your Pad ID will be different for the different classes.

9.         Exams:  Four exams will be administered during the semester.  They will cover material indicated in the syllabus. You will be given the entire class time to complete each exam.  The final exam will be cumulative over all material discussed in class.  The final exam date is Monday, December 14 2009 8:00 AM.

No make-up exams will be administered in the course.  In order to obtain an excused absence from an examination, the student must communicate in person or by phone the reason for his or her absence prior to the examination if possible and provide written documentation pertaining to the legitimacy of the absence.

10.        Grading:                           Final grades will be calculated as follows:

            4 Exams                          ®  60 %

            Homework                       ®  20 %

            Final Exam                       ®  20 %

Class Participation Bonus  ®  Adds up to 25 pts to the final exam score (equivalent to a 5% overall bonus)

            Total scores (in %) within the following ranges guarantee the student at least the indicated letter grade: A, 90.0-100; B, 80.0-89.9; C, 70.0-79.9; D, 60.0-69.9; F, 0-59.9.

11.        Academic Honesty and Cheating:  Cheating or plagiarism of any kind will not be tolerated.  All violations will be handled in accordance with established procedures and polices concerning student academic responsibility.  Please be aware that an infraction is considered serious and could result in an F in the course and suspension from the University.

12.        Grievance Procedures and Conduct of the Class:  Any grievance about grading and/or the conduct of the class should be taken up first with the instructor.  Further comments and complaints should be addressed to the Department Chair only after the instructor has been consulted.  This class will be conducted in compliance with UMKC's Affirmative Action / Equal Opportunity and Sexual Harassment Policies (see UMKC General Catalog).
